One plan per browser

Pick your browser above. The plan lists only the steps its maker documents, with the source beside each one, followed by four steps that apply in any browser. Why each step helps, and what it costs, is explained on how to stop browser fingerprinting; the makers' claims side by side are on the browser comparison.

The four steps for any browser

  1. Leave settings as a set; do not change single values to look unusual (EFF).
  2. Block known trackers with an extension such as Privacy Badger (EFF).
  3. Clean tracking parameters from links before you share them, with the batch cleaner (our addition).
  4. On your phone, install fewer apps and question their permissions (EFF).

Coming back to it

Tick a step when it is done; the ring fills and names the next one. Ticks are kept in this browser only, so after a browser update you can reopen the plan and see whether anything needs redoing. We did not test the browsers, and makers change features, so each step links to the page we read on the date at the top.
